Common Customer Issues - Fix My Customized PC

I have just received my GamePC. What is the procedure to set it up correctly?

For help on installing your newly opened GamePC system, please feel free to look at our online installation guide in our website's support section. This will help you determine the type of cables and connections you will need to have ready when installing your GamePC.
Does upgrading my GamePC with third party components void my warranty?

GamePC users are free to upgrade their systems without voiding their system warranty. In fact, we encourage it! We make it easy to add another hard disk or optical drive, by leaving you the open bays and power connections you'll need for this task. Installation procedures vary on a case-by-case basis, so please consult your bundled installation manual for your specific chassis. If a GamePC system is upgraded with minor components (hard disk, optical, video, sound card or memory), we will still cover the overall system warranty, even though we cannot cover warranty on your third-party installed parts. If the major system components like motherboard and processor are replaced without approval from GamePC, your system warranty will be void.

If the component you install into your GamePC system is responsible for physical damage to other components, we cannot be held liable for these damaged components, nor will GamePC be held responsible for other components which it damanges.

Does overclocking my GamePC void my warranty?

While GamePC does not take an active stance against overclocking, we cannot endorse it due to the inherent danger of this practice. Many of the motherboards which GamePC uses allow for overclocking of the processor, chipset, memory or graphics processor. However, many of these overclocking friendly items do not have boundaries or limitations, which can lead to component failure or overheating if not clocked properly. If a system fails due to excessive overclocking by the end user, it will void the component warranties, and if the unit must be brought back to GamePC for repairs, the customer must pay for shipping to/from our location along with any necessary service and repairs.

Do I need to upgrade my motherboard BIOS? If so, how do I go about doing so?
GamePC will always equip shipping systems with the latest, stable motherboard BIOS, so in the vast majority of cases, a motherboard BIOS update will not be needed once the system is received. However, often times a BIOS release is needed over time, in order to fix minor bugs or to support new processors. Most modern motherboards include software to let you update the BIOS through Windows, although updating your BIOS outside of Windows is generally considered a safer method. In order to update your BIOS, you need to find out your manufacturer and model number for your motherboard, and match up the latest BIOS release to the one listed on the manufacturer's website. Each brand of motherboards uses different programs and has different systems for updating the BIOS. If you contact GamePC via email, we can guide you to the latest BIOS available for your specific motherboard.

What software applications would GamePC recommend for keeping my system safe from viruses and spyware?

AntiVirus - Norton AntiVirus, AVG AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan, Microsoft Live OneCareAntiSpyware - Windows Defender, Norton Internet Security, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, PestPatrol AntiSpyware

Will my system's power supply be able to handle additional upgrades?

GamePC will never ship a system with an insufficient power supply. Every system configuration is checked to make sure the power supply is more than plentiful for the needs of the system. We always try and make sure our system have plenty of power supply "upgrade room", meaning the power load by adding more components will not completely tap out the system's power supply. As a general rule, we always use power systems with at least 400 watts and up. Systems with multiple processors along with multiple hard disks should consider higher end 600 watt and higher power supplies, where fully loaded, stocked to the maximum GamePC systems should consider power supplies at 750 watts and above.

If you're concerned if your GamePC's power supply will be able to upgrade a significant system upgrade, please feel free to contact GamePC's technicians through our technical support interface, and we will look over your specifications and tell you if your power supply can handle the load.

When upgrading my memory, do I have to purchase the exact same brand/size module as what is currently installed in my system?

As a general rule, it's always best for stability and performance if all of your memory modules are from the same manufacturer and use the same capacity and timings. However, if you choose to use memory modules which are not identical to your previous modules, you will want to ensure that your motherboard uses the lowest possible memory timings in order to ensure stability. In addition, you must set your motherboard to whatever memory clock speed of the slowest modules is.
